Hmm, who would I invite to dinner? I think I would invite my future wife (whoever she may be), and I'd make something generic, like spaghetti. Here's why: 1. I would meet my future wife, and it would be kind of nice to know who it is. 2. Most people don't have a great aversion to spaghetti, so I may not score on the favorite food category. If not, at least I would not have picked the most hated food by her (unless it was actually spaghetti and then that would stink). 3. I would be able to do the spaghetti and then add to the meal a bit with some warm garlic bread, so I may win brownie points in being able to cook and even cook well.
4. If making the meal turns out to be a complete failure, she may think that was way sweet of me to try to cook for her. I think it's pretty hard to royally mess up on spaghetti though, so that is a safeguard.
Well if I were to invite anyone I wanted to dinner I would choose any eligable bachelor who is deceased and preferable a rich pirate. Let me expound on why; he would be very entertaining with his arghs and eye patch, but most importantly he would look extremely similary to Orlando Bloom or Johnny Depp. Then with my amazing cooking skills I would win his heart with my juicy steak and potatoes and then he would confess where he buried his large fortune of pirate money. Then I would convert him to the church and we would live happily every after, (except he is dead).

ReplyDeleteThese types of questions always bother me because I wish I could just have a super awesome dinner party full of a bunch of people. Plus I feel like I'll change my mind in ten minutes, but if I had to choose right now, I would invite Julie Andrews over. I think she's super awesome and classy. Plus, if she was late we could quote "Princess Diaries." Or not. I'd serve sweet potato fries and PB&J sandwiches because those are the only things I like to make. Plus, it'd be funny.
ReplyDeleteEasy. Joseph Smith without a doubt. Every time you're in a religion class or gospel doctrine or some similar setting, you hear a quote or story or scripture about Joseph Smith that just blows your mind. I would just be ready with a list of like 1000 questions, ready to ask. I would probably take him to get fast food for two reasons. First, you know JS has never eaten fast food in his life so he would probably love it(but i wouldn't let him get meat unless it was winter). Second it's FAST so less time eating, more time asking him questions and listening to his stories.
ReplyDeleteWell, since Joseph Smith has been taken, I would probably invite Captain Moroni. I think I would be able to listen to him talk on forever about the armies that he fought and the ways he led his people, both spiritually and physically. I would be able to learn more fully how to cause the powers of darkness to shake!(and who doesn't want that??) For food, I would probably make some salad and maybe some chicken and potatoes. I think he'd like that..an army man needs his protein anyway!
ReplyDeleteOne of the single most interesting characters from all of history is Orrin Porter Rockwell. Probably the most controversial Mormon from early church history. I recently read a biography on him and it was pretty mind blowing what kinds of things he did (legal and illegal). I would love to have just a single night to meet with this supposed destroying angel of Momondom. There are so many crazy stories from his history and at this point it is entirely impossible to establish which are true and which are false, but if I were to have the source sitting before me a great number of lessons would be learned. He also would have some interesting insights into the life of the prophet Joseph Smith due to his being one of the oldest friends of the prophet. I would probably serve some delicious buffalo burgers just to remind him of the good old days.

ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose one person to have over for dinner, I would probably choose Alma the Younger. I'm getting my mission call today, so my mind has kinda been on absolutely nothing but missionary work recently. I've been reading in Alma for my Book of Mormon class, and man oh man, was Alma a great missionary! I can't imagine the courage and love it must have taken for Alma and his friends to go into Lamanite lands and preach the gospel to people who hated them so much that they wanted to kill them. I probably wouldn't care what Alma and I ate, just as long as I had the chance to ask him all of my questions and tell him how much I admire him.
If I could invite anyone to dinner, it would be my great grandma. We would be having KFC and lemon cupcakes. Whenever I would go over to her house as a kid, she would always have lemon cupcakes for her great grandchildren. Sometimes they would even be fresh out of the oven! We would be having KFC because that memory always gives us a good laugh. She would always have KFC and biscuits and then whatever she didn't eat, she would feed to her dogs. Least to say her dogs were EXTREMELY fat.
ReplyDeleteIf I could invite one person to attend dinner at my house it would be my father; who passed away when I was two years old. I don't remember him much because I was so young and thus, only "know" him and vision him through pictures that have been around my house. If he were to attend, I would serve him either a baked potato with steak or a lobster! Finally enough, those are both of our favorite meals and for desert, it would, without a doubt, be a chocolate cake.

ReplyDeleteIf I absolutely have to choose, I would invite Henry David Thoreau This is because I have always found him a most interesting individual. I have read all of Walden and Civil Disobedience, and they are surprisingly relevant to modern politics. Also, his views on society are very similar to mine, so it would be nice to hash some things out with him. I don't know what I would feed him... Based on what I understand of his personality, I am not sure I would need to feed him anything; I believe we would both be content to feed on each others' intellects.
