Blog 3: Household Matters

Blog Post #3: How's life going with your roommates? Share a story about them . . . a conflict that's come up, a funny incident, a strange coincidence.

  1. I love my roommate. Her name is Shelby and we are both from Ohio. We both attended the same EFY two summers ago but we never knew each other so I think it is really funny that we ended up as roommates! What a strange coincidence! I was really nervous to meet her at first. I went to Columbus, Ohio to meet her before coming to BYU and it went really well! I was happy to find out that she is friendly, outgoing, neat, and most importantly NORMAL!!! Everything worked out perfectly and we are really happy in 1118 Chipman Hall!

  2. My roommate is great! Her name is Kokia and she's become really good friends with me and another girl from my hometown. She's from Hawaii, so she always uses these weird Hawaiian slang terms and is surprised when my other friend and I don't understand them.

  3. I have 5 roommates and they are all quite different but I love them! We have a really good time all hanging out. We made dinner together on Sunday for the first time which was interesting. We didn't have enough of everything individually so we had 3 different kinds of pastas with our red sauce and not enough jello packets so we had a tiny layer of jello for us to divide up. It will take awhile to get the hang of cooking together.

  4. I was a little worried to meet my roommate at first. I did a random assignment in the dorms. Honestly I did it so that I wouldn't feel obligated to spend time with the guy. Luckily he's a really chill guy, probably the best random roommate I could of gotten. Doesn't mind if I come back at 4 in the morning (which I've done a couple times so far, whoops - but hey, it's college). Umm, something funny is that I missed the move in day and the orientation so when I finally started moving in, he was never there. His stuff was all set up, but I would come to the dorm to unpack and set up my things and he would never be there. When I finally met him the first thing he said was "Dude you're like a ninja, I would come to the dorm and all your stuff would be moved around, but you were never here haha". Anyways thought that was funny.

  5. I'm rooming with my best friend since kindergarten! It's been wonderful! And since we live in David John Hall, we share a bathroom with two other people who we've become really good friends with too. We're all kind of weird so we just yell random things at each other across the room. It usually ends up in someone yelling "go home!" at someone else and the other person yelling "I am home!" right back. All in good humor though.

  6. I have 3 roommates they are all really cool. The girl I share a room with is also a diver so that is really cool. We are able to go to practice together, which is great because neither of us are morning people so we kinda wake each other up.

  7. Life with my roommates is great! I couldn't have picked better roommates. One of my favorite things we do is post funny quotes we say up on our quote board. The quote board is filled with inside jokes and funny experiences that we have had. We are always laughing, staying up all hours of the night! They are the best.

  8. I absolutely love my roommates! Everyday brings something new and different and I have enjoyed getting to know them. Our days typically include multiple dance parties in our dorm, so that has been enjoyable.

  9. My roommates are super chill. One night we were watching a movie together on the kitchen table. I feel asleep on the table and they finished the movie. After they decided to pick me up and carry me to bed. So the next thing I knew someone grabbed my arms and someone grabbed my legs and they lugged me all the way to my bed and (its pretty high up) they threw me on top of it. But they decided that wasn't good enough, so they flipped me over and tucked me in. They're the best.

  10. Both of my roommates are awesome! (I live in Wyview so there are three of us to an apartment). I was very worried about getting along with my roommates because i also did a random assignment and based off of facebook, we didn't seem to have much in common...but boy was that wrong! We all have similar tastes in just about everything! Probably the best thing we have in common is our shared loved for food :) Last Sunday we had a blast making homemade pizza together and sitting down to eat as a "family". I can honestly say I was worried for no reason because my roommates are pretty fantastic!

  11. I love my roommates! It's crazy how similar yet different we are. We can all honestly geek out over Sherlock, Harry Potter, Merlin, etc. Emmalie's an amazing singer, and the social one. If you had to guess where she was it would probably be at choir practice or a date! Marissa is hilarious. She's not afraid to joke with people in that witty way that you cant help but smile at . Mckenzie's good for an ego boost, because she loves to laugh. Sometimes I feel like a comedian! Of course she's always up for an adventure! She can make you come out of your comfort zone because her energy is so infectious. Alayna is kind of like the dorm mom. She is very wise and always the first to point out why something might or might not work. She's the biggest "nerd" ( that's a compliment) Discover something cool and totally geeky? Alayna's already seen it :). Elisa is my actual roommate and she's one hard-worker. When I see her doing her homework so diligently, it helps me get focused and motivated enough to do my own homework. She also does a crazy amount of service! It's totally inspiring, and she's already got me involved in one of the service projects she coordinates. It's been a blessing! A really funny coversation happened when I was reading one of my roommates scripts for her theater class. *discovers plot twist* Me: ohhh he's selling drugs, that's good! *Mt two roomates look at each other weirdly* Marrisa: Well she is from New York. Me: What are you guys talking about? Mckenzie: You just said selling drugs was good! Me: I meant that was a good plot twist! I can't believe the stereotype I just witnessed! *Everyone almost dies from laughing* It might not be that funny to everyone else but to us it was just so hilarious! Yeah, I have some seriously awesome roommates.

  12. I really like all of my roommates, we can a really crazy time or we can just chill. We make dinner together on Sunday which always turns out pretty fantastic! We haven't had any really funny or horrible stories quite yet, we just have random 'plot twist' moments and like to talk a lot. Our weakness is food, especially ice-cream and cookies, we tried to outlaw them, but so far we haven't gotten too far. Oh, i guess on funny thing is me and one of my roommates pretty much always get lost no matter where we go, so don't ever let us lead the way or you may take a while getting there!

  13. My roommates are the best! They have brought so much happiness to my life while here at BYU. We are all so unique in our own ways that we connect so well and bring a different perspective of fun in to what we do. We can laugh and joke about anything. Since probably day 2 we've been able to be sarcastic with each other never to the point of being rude though. Being the only one born and raised in Utah I definitely have the most innocent mind of them and learn new things daily. Luckily, they're pretty kind about not corrupting my mind too much. I'm in a room where there are just 4 of us, and coincidentally my 3 roommates all are fanatics about everything Disney. I've been to Disneyland many times, but I was not raised on any of the Disney movies. Since we've lived here, they have watched at least one Disney movie almost every day, so when I haven't been busy I've been able to finally catch up on them which I've wanted to do since the beginning of high school, but never got around to it. To sum it all up, they're the best roommates I could ask for.

  14. My roommates and I get along super well! We all like sports and to have fun. My three roommates new each other from before, and so they already got along really well. They have been super helpful in helping me feel welcomed and a part of the group! My favorite part about our apartment is the art that we have hanging up. We have collected pieces of art from D.I. and added a little to them ourselves. It makes the apartment feel more like home and is a great conversation starter!

  15. My roommate's name is Summer, and we met last summer! We came to Provo for EFY, being random roommates then. The last night, we found out that we were both applying to BYU. I asked her if she would want to room together again if we both got in. She said yes, and, obviously, we both got in. It's been super awesome rooming with her again! We both have that odd sense of humor (such as buying a bamboo plant and a cactus at Walmart to "spruce" up our room, which we did last weekend). She can be pretty wild sometimes, such as getting back to the room at 6 in the morning... but she's an amazing person who helps me let loose when the time is needed. I'm glad we both got into BYU and were able to room together agian.
One little story to share... we have another friend from EFY who is in California playing baseball. We skyped him a couple times and left him video messages. The last video message we left was of us just staring at the camera for about 2 1/2 minutes. Finally, I had to do something else, so I roared and ran my face into the camera, ending the video right there. It gave us both a pretty good laugh!

  16. I absolutely love my roommates!! We've had our issues with the kitchen, meaning how people like certain things their way, but as a whole, we have all got along really well! From day one, we all clicked really easily and it almost seems like we've all known each other for a long time. We are constantly laughing and having parties. Sometimes it's hard to get homework done, but you know, that's just what college is about sometimes isn't it? I couldn't ask for a better situation!

  17. I love my roomate! we are working on a song to sing for our ward talent show to impress a certain female. He is awesome at guitar and we sound so good together. We met with him in spandex running in the room after going for a run and thus a glorious friendship was born
